MATE SUSAN is a "Millie" class 0-4-0 side tank built by Roundhouse in Doncaster, and she entered service on the Swallowdale Railway in 2010.
On subsequent visits to the SdR's Low End works the locomotive was fitted with a ne water top-up system and water level sight-glass. Also slide-bars were fitted to the simplified Stephenson slip-eccentric valve gear.
Originally an open-cabbed design, a full cab has been fitted by the SdR in Low End Works with a lamp bracket installed on the cab back-plate.
This locomotive has now been rebuilt with several modifications:
- Opening smokebox door
- New full-length running plates supported by angle sections
- Cab and side tanks modified; rolled edges replaced with squared edges
- Repaint in Mid Brunswick Green heat resistant paint
