Low End Works are making progress with the new-build steam tram engine, which is based on a Kitson tram chassis/boiler/engine supplied by Mamod Ltd.
The current works are:
- Tram chassis stripped down to frames with boiler and engine block removed
- Holes drilled out for 6BA fixings to replace allen key type
- Footplate cut down to same width as SdR's Bertie class locomotive which is 6' 9"
- Wheels properly gauged to 2' gauge
- New buffer beams being made from 3" thick steel
- Top corners of frames chamfered to improve fitting of footplate to frames
- Frame bolts loosened and frames properly squared up
