The earlier experiment with fitting a section of tinplate cladding on the top of the Millie class "Mate Susan"' boiler was a failure because the heat resistant green paint became discoloured after a few weeks in service.
The cladding idea has been abandoned and the pot-boiler top will revert to being black.
These photos show modifications to the tops of the tanks to make the corners square with a lip all the way round. This will allow the tank tops to be painted black without having to use masking tape.
