Susan back in traffic after re-build

Roundhouse Millie class 0-4-0 "Mate Susan" has now returned to traffic following her re-build in Low End Works. She now carries her works number M445 as her running number (previously No.3) and has been repainted in a Mid-Brunswick Green using heat resistant enamel paint.

Susan now has full-length running plates, opening smokebox door and a top section of boiler cladding that can safely be painted in colours other than black.

There were some teething troubles when she returned to traffic causing her to be returned to works to have her burner assembly removed, cleaned and fitted with a replacement fuel jet nozzle.

It was also found necessary to add heat deflector vanes to the side edges of the top-of-boiler cladding to prevent the green paint from becoming discoloured.
