Steam Tram progress

Submitted by andrew.sdr on

Low End Works are making progress with the new-build steam tram engine, which is based on a Kitson tram chassis/boiler/engine supplied by Mamod Ltd.

The current works are:

  • Tram chassis stripped down to frames with boiler and engine block removed
  • Holes drilled out for 6BA fixings to replace allen key type
  • Footplate cut down to same width as SdR's Bertie class locomotive which is 6' 9"
  • Wheels properly gauged to 2' gauge
  • New buffer beams being made from 3" thick steel
  • Top corners of frames chamfered to improve fitting of footplate to frames
  • Frame bolts loosened and frames properly squared up
