Pattern making for Daisy the Tram

Submitted by andrew.sdr on

The Low End Works pattern shop has been making 3-D patterns in cardboard (from Shredded Wheat cartons). This has been used to provide a mock-up of the loco bodywork for the Tram Engine project. This is the procedure:

  • Make card pattern
  • Attach to existing chassis/frame
  • Evaluate the appearance
  • Evaluate accessibility to internal loco components:
    • Controls
    • Water gauge glass
    • Pressure gauge glass
    • Blow-down valve
  • Check accessibility for miniature engine crew

It is clear from the first draft patterns that the roof needs to be lowered and the bodyside cut-outs for access to gauge glasses can be reduced considerably.
