The loco frame was drilled with 3mm bit to create mounting holes for the footplate brackets. These will be screwed to the frame with 6BA brass bolts and the holes in the brackets may need to be oversized to allow clearance.
It is important that when fitting the footplate to the frame the fixings used do not put pressure on the frames as there would be a danger of the frame twisting. Hence the need for clearances on the bolt holes.
The frames as supplied by Essel Engineering Ltd are outside frames but without axle boxes to cover the bearings.
So it has been necessary to fabricate an outer frame face with horn guides and axle boxes. The axle boxes themselves were already in stock after coach no.203 was converted from 4-wheel to bogie.
