A new combined firebox endplate and boiler saddle was fabricated from aluminium scrap.
This will support the new high pressure boiler at the cab end and replace the old boiler mounting arrangement which relied on support from the original MSS cab sheets.
The old brass boiler had brass screws held in recessed bosses in the cab end of the boiler barrel, whereas the new boiler has no fixings in the barrel ends.
