Exhaust system developed for new Tram engine

Submitted by andrew.sdr on

Low End Works design office has developed an exhaust steam condenser and dual concentric chimney arrangement. This failed to work correctly on the first tests so the following modifications were made to the condenser design:

  • Exhaust steam input pipe moved to the top of the condenser barrel
  • The input pipe now extends horizontally across the inside of the condenser barrel and directs the jet of steam straight at the opposite wall
  • Reduced the pipe size of the drain from 3/16" to 1/8"

RESULTS

The condenser unit successfully separates the oily condensate from the exhaust steam and expels it from the drain. The exhaust steam is then piped into the gap between the outer and inner shells of the dual concentric chimney and exits at the top without the danger of dumping any remaining condensate into the fire.
